Highest-risk states

Relative scores based on public signals. Higher scores indicate more retirement risk pressure across the six core risks.

Lowest-risk states

Lower scores signal less relative pressure. Scores update automatically with new data releases.

How we score states

Directional signals from public data sources: SSA life tables, BLS CPI + regional inflation, CMS healthcare cost data, IRS brackets/RMD/IRMAA, state tax + retirement policy data, housing and insurance indices. Scores are explanatory, not predictive.

Longevity + sequence awareness

Retirement timing, expected horizon, and early-retirement drawdown sensitivity.

Cost pressure

Regional inflation, housing/insurance trends, and healthcare/LTC costs by state.

Tax + policy

State tax drag, RMD/IRMAA implications, pension treatment, and property tax context.

Location flexibility

Housing status and the ability to relocate or adjust spending paths over time.
